Kaminoyama Park is a beautiful urban park located near the Ikaho Onsen area in Shibukawa City, Gunma Prefecture, situated near the summit of Mount Monoki. It is conveniently located right next to 'Mihari Station,' the top station of the Ikaho Ropeway, making access extremely smooth and easy. The highlight of the park is the panoramic view from the 'Tokimeki Deck.' From this vantage point, you can see the sprawling streets of Ikaho Onsen below, and in the distance, the majestic peaks of the Yugama, Hotaka, and Akagi mountains. The park is a wonderful spot to experience the changing expressions of nature throughout the seasons.
This park is situated in an area that has grown alongside the long history of the Ikaho Onsen hot spring district. It has been developed as a place where visitors can feel one with nature while preserving the traditional landscape of the hot spring town. Along with the development of the ropeway, the park serves as a vital tourism resource for Ikaho, acting not just as a public park but as a central hub for appreciating the multifaceted beauty of the region's scenery.
The park is designed to maximize the viewing experience. The 'Tokimeki Deck' is particularly important, offering an unobstructed view of the surrounding mountains and the hot spring town. In spring, you can enjoy the vibrant colors of blooming azaleas, while in autumn, the surrounding trees turn into a rich tapestry of fall colors. Additionally, the park is a famous spot for viewing the beautiful night scenery, where the lights of the hot spring town create a magical atmosphere. In winter, the scenery takes on a different, seasonal character related to the nearby facilities.
There are different charms to enjoy depending on the season. In spring (around April to May), the azaleas are in full bloom, creating a colorful landscape. In autumn (around October to November), the autumn foliage is stunning, painting the mountains in vivid colors. Regarding the time of day, daytime offers clear, detailed views of the mountain ranges under a blue sky, while from evening to night, the lights of the hot spring town begin to glow, offering a romantic and beautiful night view. The scenery changes completely depending on when you visit.
The park is an ideal environment for a relaxing stroll. Most visitors come to enjoy the scenery from the observation deck and rest amidst nature. During the winter, activities that allow you to feel the seasonal atmosphere are also possible due to the surrounding environment. The process of taking the ropeway to reach the summit is itself an enjoyable part of the experience, offering scenic views during the ascent. Spending time watching the mountain ridges and the town below in the silence of nature provides a perfect moment to escape daily life.
Right next to the park is the 'Mihari Station' of the Ikaho Ropeway. Using this station allows for a smooth trip from the foot of the Ikaho Onsen area to the summit. The surrounding area is a popular tourism zone for Ikaho Onsen, dotted with various accommodation facilities, historical buildings, and walking paths. It is an environment where you can fully enjoy both the hot spring culture and the rich natural beauty of the region.
Since the park is located near a mountain summit, please dress according to the season. We highly recommend bringing warm clothing or a jacket, especially in winter or if the weather changes unexpectedly. While some areas are paved, it is best to wear comfortable walking shoes for exploring nature. As this is a public space, please respect the environment by taking your trash home and being mindful of the natural surroundings. While walking through the park is free, please note that fees may apply if you use the ropeway to reach the summit.
