Tsurumi Ryokuchi Park is a sprawling 122-hectare urban park located on the site of the 1990 International Flower and Greenery Exposition (commonly known as the 'Flower Expo'). Originally opened as Tsurumi Ryokuchi in 1972, the park evolved through the landmark exposition to become the scenic destination it is today. Visitors can still see remnants of the Expo, such as the iconic windmills and diverse gardens that blend various cultures. While most of the park is free to enter, please note that some specific facilities within the park require an admission fee.
The history of this park dates back to the 1941 air defense green space plan. After opening as Tsurumi Ryokuchi in 1972, it hosted the International Flower and Greenery Exposition in 1990. Following the Expo, several key structures were preserved as monuments, including the 'Sakuya Konohana' pavilion, the 'Tower of Life' (observation tower), and windmills designed with plant seed motifs. Today, the park serves as a vital green lung for the city and a major hub for sports and recreation.
The park is divided into several distinct areas, each offering a unique experience. The 'Mountain Area' features the Windmill Hill with seasonal blooms, a Rose Garden, a traditional Japanese garden with an authentic tea house, and an International Garden. The International Garden is particularly famous for its beautiful landscapes representing various countries. For nature lovers, the Natural Observation Area allows for close-up viewing of plants and wildlife. Additionally, the park offers vast lawn areas, sports facilities, and campsites for multi-purpose leisure use.

The park maintains a 'Flower Calendar' to track seasonal blooms; for instance, hydrangeas are a major highlight during their specific season. Beyond the International Garden, you can explore the Japanese Garden and the Natural Observation Area to connect with local culture and nature. The station-front area is also well-equipped with facilities such as futsal courts, bathing facilities (onsen-style), and dog runs, providing a multi-layered leisure experience. Navigating the vast grounds is easy via well-maintained walkways or the electric shuttle bus.
We highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes as the park is very large. Since you may spend many hours outdoors, please bring sufficient water and hydration supplies.
