The lord, Hojo Uteru, was a central figure who supported Hojo Masanari and played a key role in diplomacy and military affairs involving the Takeda and Uesugi clans. In 1590, during the Siege of Odawara, the castle fell to the forces of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. This event marked a decisive turning point in history, leading to the decline of the Hojo clan and the unification of Japan. Following its fall, the land became direct territory of the Tokugawa Shogunate, and the natural environment has been protected ever since. Near Mount Shiroyama, you can also find sites of religious significance, such as Hachioji Shrine and Zenkan-ji Temple, which continue to honor the history of the area.
