Tamanari Park is a city park located in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, encompassing the historic site of Yuzuki Castle. Historically, the Isonami Shrine resided here, but the landscape was shaped when Kono Michimori constructed Yuzuki Castle during the Kenmu era. Today, the park features well-preserved earthen walls and outer moats, allowing visitors to experience the atmosphere of an ancient fortress up close. It is also a renowned cherry blossom spot, with trees designated as specimen trees by the Matsuyama Local Meteorological Observatory, making it a breathtaking destination in spring.
The history of this site is deep, preserving the architectural legacy of medieval Japanese fortifications. In 1886, it was established as the Dogo Botanical Garden and later developed into the Prefectural Dogo Park. Notable historical records mention visits by Emperor Taisho and Emperor Showa, who both planted pine trees here. In 2002, restoration work on the Yuzuki Castle ruins was completed, and the site was designated as a National Historic Site. Furthermore, it was selected as one of the "Japan's Top 100 Castles" in 2006, solidifying its status as a significant symbol of Japanese history.

The park is also conveniently located near the Dogo Onsen area, making it easy to pair a visit with a relaxing hot spring experience.
