Reisai (Annual Festival) will be held at Yasui Konpiragu Shrine in Higashiyama, Kyoto, on October 10, 2026. Yasui Konpiragu is highly renowned for its ability to 'sever bad ties and bind good ones.' The shrine has a long history, founded during the reign of Emperor Tenji by Fujiwara no Kamatari, and is also deeply connected to Emperor Sutoku, who loved purple wisteria.
This Reisai is a significant milestone for the shrine. Within the grounds stands the massive 'Enkiri Enmusubi Ishi' (Stone of Breaking and Binding Ties), measuring 1.5 meters high and 3 meters wide, where many visitors pass through the hole to offer prayers. This event offers a special opportunity to pray for new connections during this seasonal turning point.
The greatest attraction is the experience with the 'Enkiri Enmusubi Ishi.' The stone features a large central crack where divine power is said to flow. Beyond just sightseeing, you can have a deeper experience by using a 'Katashiro' (a paper charm/substitute) to perform a ritual step.
First, after praying at the main hall, take the 'Katashiro' (on which you have written your wish) and pass through the hole from the front side to the back side. This symbolizes 'severing bad ties.' Then, pass through from the back side to the front side again to 'bind good ties.' Finally, by attaching the Katashiro to the stone, your wish is said to be fulfilled. This sequence of actions is a highly memorable experience for visitors.

The shrine is within walking distance or easily accessible by bus from major tourist areas like Kiyomizu-dera Temple and the Gion district.
The prayer at the 'Enkiri Enmusubi Ishi' can be done throughout the day. However, during the Reisai or specific ceremonies, please be mindful of your surroundings. 'Katashiro' are available on the left side of the stone. To use a Katashiro, an offering of 100 yen or more must be placed in the offering box to prepare your wish for the deities.
