HAKODATE ART EXHIBITION 2026 Vol.3 “Old Town” is a touring art event held in the western district of Hakodate (Old Town), a nostalgic area where Western culture blends with Japanese history. This event is produced by TERU, the vocalist of the famous Japanese rock band GLAY.
The venue, the western district of Hakodate, is characterized by its historic buildings and beautiful streetscapes. This exhibition features installations that treat the entire space as a work of art, photography exhibitions by Hakodate-born photographers, and a fusion of poetry and calligraphy within important cultural properties. Visitors can rediscover the charm of the city through art while moving between multiple venues via local trams.
The biggest draw of this event is the diverse range of expressions across three distinct venues:
1. Odajima Suisan Foods: Features installations produced by TERU. Experience the Hakodata renewal of the acclaimed "Character Exhibition" from Shibuya, Tokyo, and works themed around "Lines," turning the space itself into an art experience.
2. TSU@THE TABLE GALLERY: A photography exhibition by photographers from Hakodate. In addition to Yosuke Oishi, Yusuke Baba, Takayuki Koike, and Kosutarou—who have close ties to TERU—the bassist of GLAY, JIRO, also participates. The second floor features warm, heartfelt displays of calligraphy and works by local kindergarten children themed around "Thread."
3. Tachikawa Family Residence & Shop: A space to engage all five senses against the backdrop of a registered tangible cultural property. The exhibition features calligraphy by Akiko Sasaki, inspired by poems written by GLAY's main composer, TAKURO. Furthermore, enjoy a limited-edition Matcha cafe in collaboration with the popular "HAKODATE MATCHA STAND," and live DJ sets by artist Azumi, creating a seamless experience of music, food, and historical architecture.
The event will be held during the following period:
Please check the information for each specific venue regarding exhibition details and event schedules, such as DJ performances, closer to the event date.
The event takes place at several locations within the western district (Old Town) of Hakodate.
| Facility Name | Features |
|---|---|
| Odajima Suisan Foods | Installation exhibition produced by TERU |
| TSU@THE TABLE GALLERY | Photography exhibition by Hakodate photographers & 2nd-floor collaboration |
| Tachikawa Family Residence & Shop | Poetry/Calligraphy exhibition in a cultural property, limited Matcha cafe, & DJ sets |
It is recommended to travel between venues using public transportation, such as the Hakodate City Tram, while enjoying a stroll through the historic streets.
This is a "touring-style" event where you visit multiple locations. Rather than seeing everything at once, we recommend moving between venues to suit your pace. For example, you can time your visit to enjoy the limited-edition Matcha at the Tachikawa Family residence or catch a live DJ set for a deeper experience.
Since many exhibits are "spatial" or "installations," we encourage you to feel the unique atmosphere of each venue. At the photography exhibition, you can discover new facets of Hakodate through the lens of local artists.
