The 'Fureai Plant Observation Tour' held at Makino Botanical Garden is a professional and engaging experiential program at a facility that honors the achievements of Dr. Tomitaro Makino, a key figure in botany. The garden is home to over 3,000 diverse plant species, including those closely associated with Dr. Makino. During this event, you will walk through the garden guided by a professional botanical advisor to learn about the ecology and beauty of plants that can only be seen during this specific season.
The greatest charm is the opportunity to observe plants using all five senses while listening to live commentary from a plant expert. You will experience the vitality and seasonal changes of plants that go beyond what is seen in textbooks or field guides. Through the instructor's explanations, the 'greenery' transforms into living beings with names and stories. Since different plants are in peak season at different times, the changing expressions of nature depending on when you visit is a major highlight.
This event will be held on July 26, 2026. The scheduled time is 13:30–14:30. Please note that in July, the duration may be shortened by one hour or other changes may occur; it is highly recommended to check the latest information in advance. Enjoy a fulfilling hour while feeling the transition of the seasons.
The venue starts at the 'Main Building Atelier Practice Room' within Makino Botanical Garden. The tour moves through various plant areas within the vast, nature-rich grounds of the botanical garden. From the meeting point at the Atelier Practice Room, you will head out into the fields where plants grow naturally.
This event is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis with a capacity of 20 participants. As this is a rare opportunity for close-up expert commentary, early application is important. Applications can be made via the official website's application form, or by FAX and at the garden entrance counter. Please note that applications via telephone are not accepted. A separate entrance fee for the botanical garden is required to participate.
As you will be walking through the natural environment, the following preparations are recommended:
