The Aoshima Sea Procession is a traditional summer ritual of Aoshima Shrine, deeply rooted in the Aoshima district of Miyazaki City. Held on the 17th and 18th of the lunar 6th month (typically late July in the Gregorian calendar), it is one of the most cherished local events.

The highlight is the dynamic "crossing the sea" ritual. This tradition, which began in 1948, honors the deities and follows the wish of local fishermen to guide the gods to the sea. The sight of the lead boat carrying the sacred shrine (Mikoshi) followed by dozens of fishing boats adorned with colorful 'Tairyo-ki' flags is truly magnificent.
