Event Overview

The "Yatsushiro National Fireworks Competition" is one of Western Japan's most prestigious fireworks competitions, held at the Kumagawa River Green Space (upstream of Shin-Hagihara Bridge). This event brings together Japan's most elite pyrotechnicians to showcase their unparalleled craftsmanship. With a massive total of approximately 14,000 fireworks, the spectacle includes not only competitive displays but also music-synchronized fireworks and a cutting-edge drone show. It is a unique opportunity to witness artistic fireworks illuminating the beautiful Kumagawa river landscape.

The main highlight is the "Competitive Fireworks" display, where masters from across the country compete. Each shell is a work of art, perfected for maximum precision and beauty. You can also enjoy the fusion of tradition and modern technology through "Music Fireworks," where displays are perfectly timed to music, and the high-tech "Drone Show." Around the venue, local food stalls and markets will be held, allowing you to soak in the festive atmosphere while tasting local delicacies.

Schedule

The event is scheduled for October 17, 2026. In the event of light rain, the show will proceed. However, if severe weather or rising river levels pose a risk to the launch site, the event will be postponed to November 7, 2026.

Venue & Access

The venue is the Kumagawa River Green Space (upstream of Shin-Hagihara Bridge) in Kumamoto Prefecture.

Road conditions near the venue:

• Shin-Hagihara Bridge will be a pedestrian-only zone from 17:00 to approximately 21:15.
• The embankment road on the opposite side of the venue will be open for viewing from 9:00 to 22:00.

Participation Tips

There are two types of viewing areas: free areas and paid reserved seating. Free areas are located downstream of Shin-Hagihara Bridge and along the embankment road on the opposite side. For those wanting a closer, more impactful experience, we highly recommend purchasing paid seats. Depending on the seat type, some include chairs while others provide a ground sheet. Please check the details in advance to choose the style that suits you best.

What to Bring & Etiquette

• *Clothing & Items**: As you will be outdoors for an extended period, we recommend bringing warm clothing for the evening and a leisure sheet (blue tarp) for sitting on the ground. If using paid seats, please be mindful of others when bringing your own items.
• *Payment**: We recommend preparing cash for use at the food stalls and local markets.
• *Reservations & Tickets**: Paid reserved seats can be purchased in advance via Seven Ticket, Kkday, etc. Tickets are required for elementary school students and above.
• *Etiquette**: The area will be very crowded. Since the area near Shin-Hagihara Bridge becomes a pedestrian-only zone, please allow plenty of time for movement. Toilets and smoking areas are located at various points throughout the venue.
