The Hoshi-ai Tanabata Festival is a quintessential summer tradition held annually on July 7th at the historic Osaka Tenmangu Shrine. Organized by the Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street, this event is a modern twist on the traditional Tanabata (Star Festival), blending ancient Shinto rituals with contemporary entertainment. Highlights & How to Enjoy

The most enchanting highlight is the "Seven Chino-wa" (seven straw rings) ritual stretching from the main hall to Hoshiai Pond. Passing through these rings is believed to bring good fortune in love and the fulfillment of wishes. Additionally, the Aikyo Bridge over Hoshiai Pond is a legendary site where it is said that couples who meet on the bridge are destined to be together.

Throughout the shrine grounds, you can participate in workshops to write wishes on colorful paper strips (tanzaku) to hang on bamboo branches, enjoy Kagura dance performances, and explore various stage events. The area is also filled with lively food stalls and food trucks. The illuminated night scenery is incredibly photogenic, offering a perfect way to soak in the nostalgic atmosphere of a Japanese summer night.
