Yukiwari-bashi is a striking iron bridge spanning the Abukuma River at a height of approximately 60 meters. It offers a spectacular vantage point to observe the natural landscape of the Yukiwari-kei Valley. The area is most famous for its autumn colors; during this season, the surrounding foliage and the peaks of the Nasu-Koshi Mountains transform into a rich tapestry of red, orange, and yellow, creating a truly unforgettable landscape.
The region has long been defined by the natural flow of the Abukuma River, preserving a rich and untouched environment. Yukiwari-bashi and its surroundings are cherished as a destination for nature appreciation. The area is well-maintained to allow visitors to connect with the local environment through paths like the Nishino-sato Promenade, which showcases the area's unique topography.
The centerpiece is the 60m high iron bridge and the dramatic valley views it provides. In autumn, the contrast between the colorful slopes and the mountain backdrop is stunning. Visitors can also explore the Nishino-sato Promenade, accessible from the Yukiwari Park parking area. Along this path, you can discover scenic spots such as Ikkyumi Falls and the Kuma-no-suberidai, where the lush vegetation meets the cascading water for a beautiful natural display.
While the scenery changes beautifully throughout the year, autumn (roughly September to November) is the most spectacular time to visit when the colors are most vivid. To get the best views of the bridge and the valley, we recommend using the Yukiwari Park Observatory or the Yukiwari-bashi Observatory. The transition from summer greenery to autumn hues offers a wonderful sense of seasonal change.
Visitors can enjoy a relaxing stroll along the Nishino-sato Promenade, where you can observe waterfalls like Ikkyumi Falls up close. The route from the Yukiwari Park parking area is a great way to immerse yourself in nature. For photography enthusiasts, the observation decks provide excellent vantage points to capture the massive iron bridge set against the deep valley and colorful mountains.
The area around Nishigo Village is well-equipped with parks and walking paths for nature lovers. Using the Yukiwari Park parking lot as a starting point, you can easily access the Nishino-sato Promenade. The area is easily accessible by car via the Shirakawa IC or Shin-Shirakawa Station, making it a perfect addition to a wider Fukushima sightseeing itinerary.
When walking the trails, please wear comfortable walking shoes and be mindful of the terrain, as the Nishino-sato Promenade is a natural path. Regarding payments, please check local facilities or parking fees in advance, as cash or credit card availability may vary. While much of the area is natural, please check for English signage on-site. Photography is highly encouraged from the observation decks, but please respect the natural environment and other visitors.
