The "Itabashi Fireworks Festival," held along the banks of the Arakawa River in Itabashi, Tokyo, is one of the largest events in the Tokyo area. In 2026, a total of approximately 15,000 fireworks will be launched from both sides of the river (combined with the Toda Fireworks Festival). To ensure visitor safety and comfort, the venue layout and ticketing system have been significantly updated for 2026. This includes the relocation of free viewing areas and the addition of various premium paid seating options for a smoother viewing experience.
This festival has been a beloved local tradition for many years, preserving the classic form of a Japanese summer festival. The greatest highlight is the overwhelming volume of fireworks that fill the night sky. In 2026, the viewing configuration has changed; for instance, general seating previously located downstream has moved to the upstream baseball field area. The festival is held during the summer season, typically in July or August. The scheduled date for 2026 is Saturday, August 1st. The fireworks display will last approximately 90 minutes, from 19:00 to 20:30. The most spectacular moments occur as the darkness of the night deepens, allowing the vibrant colors to pop. Please note that the event may be canceled due to severe weather or river conditions, and there are no rescheduled dates if canceled.
For the best experience, using paid seating is highly recommended. "Paid Free Seating" (2,000 JPY) is available in the baseball field area or the riverbank slope (Area 14-17). Tickets must be purchased in advance through designated methods, such as Seven-Eleven. Additionally, the event often features photo contests, allowing you to capture and share your favorite moments of the display.
The Arakawa riverbed in Itabashi is accessible via several stations. If you are using the free viewing areas, it is highly recommended to use Takashimadaira Station on the Toei Mita Line. To avoid extreme congestion, visitors are advised to avoid using other nearby stations like Nishi-dai, Hasune, or JR Ukima-Funabashi stations if possible.
