Yamada Bokujo is a vast ranch located at an altitude of 1,500m on the southern foot of Mt. Kasadake in Takayama Village, Nagano Prefecture. Situated within the Joshin-etsu National Park, the ranch covers an expansive area of approximately 159 hectares. During the summer, the landscape resembles the high-altitude plateaus of Switzerland, offering a peaceful sight of cattle grazing freely. The site also features the "Carillon Hall," an outdoor music hall that serves as a multi-purpose facility for various nature-themed events and gatherings.
Since its establishment over a century ago in the Meiji era (1902), Yamada Bokujo has coexisted with the natural environment of this region. The ranch utilizes the varied topography for grazing, creating an ideal environment for raising high-quality, sturdy cattle. The ranch is particularly noted for its high-quality livestock, including the prestigious Black Wagyu bull "Kuranosankufu," attracting attention from both within and outside the prefecture due to its exceptional lineage.
The greatest draw is the sight of cattle grazing across the vast green meadows. The livestock composition typically includes about 70% Black Wagyu, 20% Holstein dairy cattle, and 10% other breeds, with over 100 head of cattle grazing here annually.
