Yaizu Sakana Center is a bustling commercial complex located in Yagusa, Yaizu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, dedicated to the direct sale and dining of fresh seafood. It serves as a vital hub for the wholesale and retail of seafood freshly landed at nearby ports such as Yaizu, Ogawa, and Oi. With an impressive annual visitor count of approximately 1.7 million people, this lively destination features about 70 diverse shops. Visitors can explore a wide range of products, from high-end tuna to local specialties and various souvenir items.
Opened in October 1985, the center was built adjacent to the former Yaizu Food Wholesale Center. It is operated by the Yaizu Suisan Shinko Center Co., Ltd., a third-sector company established by Yaizu City and local businesses and associations. For decades, it has played a crucial role in delivering the bountiful gifts of the sea to consumers. Due to the aging of the current facilities, discussions regarding a potential future relocation to the nearby Yaizu Fishing Port are also underway.
The facility is divided into the main building (Center Buildings A, B, C, and D) and an annex, each offering unique experiences. You will find specialized tuna shops, stores selling Shizuoka specialties like Sakura shrimp and Shirasu (whitebait), and vendors for processed goods such as dried fish and seaweed. Additionally, the center is well-equipped with dining options including seafood bowl restaurants, yakiniku, ramen shops, and cafes, allowing you to shop and dine in one convenient trip. The seasonal variety of seafood makes every visit a new discovery.
The facility is generally open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. To ensure you get the best selection of fresh seafood and the most popular seafood bowls, we highly recommend visiting in the early morning. Large dining areas like the "Sakana Dai-Shokudo Nagisa" become very crowded during lunch hours. Since the types of fish available change with the seasons, your visit will offer different seasonal delicacies depending on when you arrive.
Beyond simple shopping, you can deeply experience the culinary culture of Yaizu. A popular way to enjoy the facility is to purchase fresh tuna or seafood at a shop and enjoy it immediately at a nearby eatery. You can also experience the joy of selecting high-quality processed goods like dried fish or Katsuobushi (bonito flakes) to take home as authentic souvenirs.
