Yaedaki Falls (Ryudo Yaedaki) is a renowned waterfall located in Unnan City, Shimane Prefecture, and is officially designated as one of the 'Top 100 Waterfalls of Japan.' The site features a spectacular sequence of eight distinct waterfalls flowing downstream: Sarutobi Falls, Takijiri Falls, Momiji (Maple) Falls, Kamo Falls, Uba Falls, Hime Falls, Yashio Falls, and finally, the majestic Yashio Falls. The landscape is incredibly diverse, with a 1.5km stretch of clear streams surrounded by ancient, lush greenery. The two-tiered Yashio Falls and Yashio Falls are particularly striking, creating a powerful and dynamic spectacle with their abundant water volume.
The region has long been blessed with abundant natural resources, and the area's status as one of the 'Top 100 Waterfalls of Japan' reflects its deep cultural and natural value. Every year on August 14th, the 'Yaedaki Matsuri' (Yaedaki Festival) is held. This event features Shinto rituals to pray for local safety and community prosperity, alongside various food stalls selling local specialties. It is a wonderful time to experience the local culture and the community's deep respect for the surrounding natural environment.
The main draw of Yaedaki Falls is the variety offered by the eight consecutive waterfalls. The two-tiered structures of the Yashio Falls and Yashio Falls create a sense of dynamic movement and power. A well-maintained walking path leads from the parking area toward the falls, allowing visitors to observe the surrounding ecosystem and feel the refreshing spray of the river up close. Each waterfall has its own unique name, shape, and character, providing a constantly changing view as you walk.

As the terrain can be uneven, we highly recommend wearing sturdy walking shoes. While there are maintained paths, you are still in a natural forest environment, so comfortable clothing is best.
