Guide
Wing Hills Hakuto Resort is a premier resort facility located in Shirotori-cho, Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture, featuring its own natural hot spring. The resort offers a diverse range of activities throughout the year: serving as a ski and snowboard destination during the winter, and transitioning into a summer skiing and camping destination during the warmer months. The summit, situated at an altitude of 1,350m, is characterized by incredibly clear air and minimal light pollution, allowing visitors to witness a breathtaking, wide-angle panorama of the starry night sky. The magical experience of walking through the night-time illuminations is a signature attraction of this destination.
Established in 1990, this resort has long been a beloved leisure hub in the Okimino region. Since coming under the management of Alpen Co., Ltd. in 2010, the resort has modernized its offerings. In addition to traditional winter sports, it has introduced advanced summer skiing using next-generation snow mats, ensuring that guests can enjoy downhill activities regardless of the season. The area also holds a history as a destination for mountain biking, maintaining a culture where nature and sports are seamlessly integrated.
One of the most unforgettable experiences is the "Space Night Tour." By taking the night gondola up to the summit, you can immerse yourself in an overwhelming view of the cosmos. The summit area is also beautifully decorated with illuminations, creating a perfect setting for photography. During the winter, the resort utilizes artificial snowmaking machines to start the season earlier than many other resorts in Western Japan. After a day of skiing or snowboarding, guests can soothe their muscles at the "Manten-no-yu," the on-site natural hot spring facility.
Winter (November to March) is the peak season for skiing and snowboarding. The time when the lights are turned on and the stars are visible offers a truly special atmosphere. In the summer, the resort transforms into a hub for summer skiing and camping. While the mountain's appearance changes with the seasons, the highlight remains the stargazing in the crisp, clear air of a winter night.
From winter snowboarding to summer downhill-sliding and camping, there is an outdoor experience for every season. Popular activities include stargazing via the night gondola and strolling through the illuminated paths. For those wishing to stay overnight, the resort offers convenient accommodations such as "Hotel Villa Wing" and "Manten-no-Yado," located within easy walking distance of the slopes.
The resort is surrounded by the lush natural beauty of Gujo City, Gifu. The Shirotori area is blessed with magnificent mountains and clear streams, making it an ideal location for nature observation and hiking. For travelers, the resort is easily accessible via the Shiratori IC on the Tokai-Hokuriku Expressway, approximately a 30-minute drive, making it a convenient destination for those traveling from the Nagoya or Hokuriku regions.
If you are visiting by car during the winter, it is mandatory to carry tire chains to handle snowy and icy roads. Please dress in heavy, layered clothing suitable for cold temperatures and high-altitude wind. To protect the environment, please observe the idling stop rules in the parking areas and strictly follow all no-smoking and fire-prevention regulations. If you plan to stay overnight or go camping, we recommend checking the facility's specific guidelines in advance.
