Wakasa Obama E-no Himawari Batake is a sprawling 1.7-hectare farm located in the Kamo district of Obama, Fukui Prefecture, where hybrid sunflowers bloom in spectacular abundance. The most striking feature is the size of the flowers; these hybrid sunflowers boast a diameter of approximately 30cm. The sight of roughly 200,000 massive blossoms stretching across the landscape creates a unique and breathtaking scenery that can only be experienced during this specific season.
The farm is operated by "Wakasa no Megumi Co., Ltd." and is a working agricultural site that also produces items such as sunflower rice, specially cultivated rice, and Midi tomatoes. Beyond providing a beautiful landscape, the farm showcases large-scale sunflower cultivation nurtured by the local natural environment. With the development of surrounding infrastructure, such as the opening of the Maizuru-Wakasa Expressway, the field has become an iconic symbol of the region's seasonal beauty.

The absolute highlight is the overwhelming scale of the landscape created by 200,000 hybrid sunflowers. These flowers are significantly larger than standard sunflowers, with a 30cm diameter spreading across the field. The area is also a popular destination for creative photography, including cosplay photography, as the environment is highly welcoming to those looking to capture high-quality, artistic images.
The peak blooming season is typically from late July to mid-August each year. We highly recommend planning your visit during this window to see the flowers at their fullest. Since summer temperatures and sunlight can be intense, visiting in the early morning is recommended to avoid the midday heat. It is also wise to check the official Instagram account before your trip to confirm the current blooming status.
Visitors can enjoy photography amidst the vast sunflower fields, and the site is particularly popular for cosplay-themed photo shoots. It offers a wonderful opportunity to record seasonal memories in a natural setting. Please note that as this is an active farm, all activities must be conducted respectfully to ensure no plants or crops are damaged.
The Kamo area in Obama is a beautiful region characterized by the rich natural beauty of the Fukui prefecture. The area is easily accessible via the Obama IC on the Maizuru-Wakasa Expressway, making it a perfect addition to a scenic driving route.
