Guide
Wakakono Park is a beautiful, rose-themed destination located in Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture. Its most prominent feature is the exquisite Rose Garden, developed to share the beauty of the rose—the official flower of the city—with the community. The garden hosts approximately 1,750 bushes of 180 different varieties. The park is designed for relaxation, featuring water elements like fountains, open grassy lawns, and an observation deck that offers a panoramic view of the entire rose garden, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in nature.
The Rose Garden was established in 1994 with the goal of bringing the charm of roses closer to the local citizens. Following a comprehensive five-year renewal project starting in 2015, the park was transformed into an even more enriched facility. It has become a beloved local landmark where visitors can experience the changing seasons through the blooming cycles of the roses, fostering a deep connection with local culture and nature.

The park offers a diverse collection of roses that will satisfy even the most dedicated enthusiasts. The sight of hundreds of roses in vibrant shades of red, pink, and yellow is truly breathtaking. Key spots include the refreshing fountains, the wide-open lawn areas, and the observation deck, which provides an elevated perspective of the garden. Each visit offers a different way to enjoy the landscape as the scenery shifts with the seasons.
There are two peak blooming seasons for the roses. The first is from early May to early June, and the second is from late October to mid-November. Visiting during these windows ensures you see the roses at their most magnificent. While the daytime is perfect for recreation near the fountains and lawns, we recommend visiting from the morning to early afternoon on sunny days to capture the most vivid colors of the flowers.
Beyond sightseeing, the park is equipped for physical activity, featuring one athletic ground and six tennis courts. It is also a popular destination for families, with various playground equipment (athletic structures) and large grassy areas for children to play. Whether you are looking to exercise, relax in nature, or enjoy the seasonal beauty of the roses, the park offers a versatile space for all ages.
The area surrounding the park is a peaceful residential neighborhood, serving as a vital community hub for daily relaxation and leisure. You can enjoy a gentle stroll through the nearby streets to experience the local atmosphere of Ibaraki City.
