Wakamatsu Beach (Wakamatsu Portside Beach) is a beautiful coastal destination located in Mihama Town, Chita District, Aichi Prefecture. The beach operates primarily as a seasonal swimming area from late June through August, creating a scenic landscape characterized by expansive sandy shores and gentle, calming waves. The area is also home to several local guest houses (minshuku), allowing visitors to experience the local maritime culture and fresh seafood alongside the natural beauty of the coast.
The region has a deep-rooted connection to fishing and maritime traditions. One of the most notable local traditions is the "Tai Matsuri" (Sea Bream Festival). During this event, participants carry five red sea breams made of white cloth on bamboo or wooden frames, parading through the town and toward the sea. This vibrant festival typically takes place on the Saturday and Sunday surrounding July 20th, showcasing the community's unique heritage.
The primary draw of Wakamatsu Beach is the breathtaking view of the calm sea stretching toward the horizon and the long, continuous stretch of sand. During the summer season, beach huts such as "Chunichi Beach House" are established, providing convenient rest areas for visitors.
