The Uzushio Whirlpool Cruise offers a spectacular way to observe the natural phenomenon of the whirlpools in the Naruto Strait, located in Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture. There are two distinct types of vessels available: the large-scale ship 'Wonder Naruto' and the high-speed, small-scale vessel 'Aqua Edi.' These ships are designed to provide different vantage points, allowing you to observe the swirling currents from the surface deck or from beneath the waves.
The Naruto Strait is famous for its intense tidal currents, which create whirlpools reaching up to 30 meters in diameter. This phenomenon has been a source of awe for centuries. The cruise services are operated to ensure that visitors can witness this incredible natural spectacle safely and reliably. Because the appearance of the whirlpools depends entirely on the tides, the cruise schedule is closely synchronized with the natural tidal cycles.

The two types of boats offer very different experiences:
1. Large-Scale Vessel: Wonder Naruto
This large ship can accommodate up to 399 passengers. Equipped with a high-power 2,000-horsepower engine and a 197-ton hull, it is built to remain stable even amidst the intense currents. It features a first-class room and an expansive observation deck, allowing you to enjoy the view with a sense of stability and openness.
2. High-Speed Small Vessel: Aqua Edi
This is a high-speed boat featuring a specialized underwater viewing room. This allows you to look directly down into the sea to see the movement of the water beneath the surface. During the approximately 30-minute cruise, you can enjoy the dual perspective of both the surface waves and the underwater currents.
The time when whirlpools occur changes every single day. Therefore, it is highly recommended to check the 'Tide Table' (Tide Chart) before your visit. The best time to observe the phenomenon is approximately 1.5 hours before and after the peak tidal time. Since operations are adjusted based on the flow of the tide, checking the schedule in advance is essential.
Taking this cruise is more than just a boat ride; it is an active observation of the ocean's power. Whether you choose the expansive, open-air view from the large ship's deck or the immersive underwater perspective from the small boat's viewing room, both are designed to provide a safe and profound way to witness the natural forces of the Naruto Strait.
The embarkation points and ticket offices are located within the popular Naruto sightseeing area. Near the boarding areas, you will find various facilities, including souvenir shops. You can also observe the dramatic scenery of the strait from the vicinity of the Onaruto Bridge.
