Ureshino Onsen is a renowned hot spring area located in Ureshino Town, Saga Prefecture. The most distinctive feature of these springs is the mineral composition, which includes sodium, bicarbonate, and chloride. Because the water leaves the skin feeling silky and smooth after bathing, it is widely celebrated as a 'beauty skin' spring (bihada no yu). The hot spring town features approximately 50 inns and ryokans lining both sides of the Shioda River, making it one of the most significant hot spring-towns in the Kyushu region. Visitors can find a delightful mix of historic architecture and modern facilities, catering to a wide range of travelers.
The history of Ureshino Onsen is ancient; records from the Nara period in the 'Fudoki of Hizen Province' describe the area as a place for healing ailments. There are various legends regarding its name; one tells of Empress Jingu, who reportedly exclaimed "Ana, ureshiya!" (Oh, how delightful!) after her soldiers' fatigue was healed by the waters. During the Edo period, the area flourished as a post town along the Nagasaki Kaido trade route, bustling with travelers. Records also show that during the late Sengoku period, the local lord Ryuzoji Takanobu encouraged the use of the hot springs for medicinal purposes, establishing the area as a long-standing destination for healing and relaxation.

A standout is "Shibolt no Yu," a public bathhouse rebuilt to replicate Taisho-era architecture, featuring a striking and nostalgic exterior.
