Uramitaki Nature Park is a serene natural sanctuary located in Omura City, Nagasaki Prefecture. The park's centerpiece is a magnificent 30-meter waterfall, surrounded by lush, thriving vegetation. The site is particularly famous for its seasonal beauty, where the sound of cascading water blends with the sight of blooming flowers, offering a deeply immersive way to experience the breath of nature.
The Omura region has long been blessed with abundant natural resources, and this area has been cherished for generations as a scenic spot centered around the waterfall. Today, it is managed as a 'Natural Flower Garden,' with a strong focus on plant conservation and the maintenance of its scenic landscapes. The park is dedicated to the cultivation of rhododendrons, serving as a botanical destination that reveals a different, beautiful face with every season.
The most dramatic feature is the 30-meter waterfall that creates a powerful and dynamic landscape. Because the paths are well-maintained all the way to the base of the waterfall, visitors can observe the sheer force and spray of the water from a very close distance. From early April to early May, the park transforms into a sea of color as approximately 6,000 rhododendrons bloom. With 45 different species from around the world on display, the contrast between the vibrant blossoms and the white water of the falls is truly unforgettable.
The best time to visit is during the 'Rhododendron Festival' from early April to early May, when the colors are at their most intense. During this period, the variety of global rhododendron species creates a breathtaking spectacle. Even outside this peak season, the lush greenery and the constant, soothing sound of the waterfall make it a wonderful place for relaxation. We recommend visiting during bright daylight hours to fully appreciate the fine details of the flowers and the mist from the falls.
Visitors can enjoy a peaceful stroll along the well-maintained walking paths. Walking down toward the base of the waterfall allows you to feel the change in the air and the vibration of the water's power. Botanical observation is a key part of the experience; take your time to observe the different varieties of rhododendrons and the surrounding flora that change with the seasons.
Uramitaki Nature Park is situated in Omura City, Nagasaki. The surrounding area features beautiful landscapes like Omura Bay, making it easy to combine a visit here with other sightseeing routes within Nagasaki Prefecture. While most visitors arrive by car, it is also accessible via public transportation.
