Unsho-ji is a Buddhist temple located in Kitaura, Oga City, Akita Prefecture. Its most defining feature is the massive cluster of hydrangeas that spread across the temple grounds. Starting from just a single plant, the collection has grown to over 1,500, and at the peak of the season, they dye the entire landscape in a vivid blue, creating a scene reminiscent of a lush blue carpet. Beyond the flowers, the view of the Kitaura port town and the Oga sea unfolds, offering a unique landscape where colorful blossoms and the sea harmonize perfectly.
This stunning hydrangea landscape has been carefully nurtured for many years by the temple's assistant priest. Through 15 years of dedicated cultivation, the priest has grown the plants to be incredibly dense and prolific, creating a unique visual impact.
