Tsuruma Park is a premier comprehensive park in Nagoya, established in 1909 and celebrating its 110th anniversary in 2019. The vast grounds feature a harmonious coexistence of a Western-style strolling garden and a natural Japanese-style garden, allowing visitors to feel a deep connection to nature even while in the heart of the city.
Recently, the park has evolved with the introduction of "Tsuruma Garden" through the Park-PFI system. While preserving its historical heritage, the area now boasts modern cafes, restaurants, and shops, creating an inviting space for everyone. The seasonal blooms—particularly the cherry blossoms in spring and the roses and irises in early summer—are major highlights that draw visitors from all over.
The park has grown alongside the modernization of Nagoya. Its Western-style architecture, including the fountain tower and the music hall (Sogakudo), preserves the cultural atmosphere of the Meiji and Taisho eras. The western side of the park features a gentle, Western-style strolling garden, while the eastern side showcases a more natural, traditional Japanese landscape.
