Tsukimi no Mori is a sprawling 37.5-hectare natural park located in Kaizu City, Gifu Prefecture. It was originally developed as a space to foster a deeper connection between people and the forest. The park is home to over 11,000 plants, including native vegetation alongside seasonal highlights such as hydrangeas, cherry blossoms, and azaleas. The shifting landscapes of these various flora offer a unique charm throughout the different seasons.
This region has a significant history regarding water management. Historically, the area was prone to flooding due to the convergence of the three major rivers: Kiso, Nagara, and Ibi. Approximately 250 years ago, a massive river diversion project was undertaken by order of the Edo Shogunate, led by samurai from the Satsuma domain, which successfully mitigated flood damage.
