Train Park Hakusan (officially the Hakusan Municipal High-Speed Railway Visitor Center) is an interactive facility located in Hakusan City, Ishikawa Prefecture. It sits directly adjacent to the Hakusan General Rolling Stock Depot, which serves the Hokuriku Shinkansen. The facility features exhibits on the history and technology of the Shinkansen, driving simulators, and an observation deck where you can watch high-speed trains pass by. It is designed to be an engaging destination for everyone from young children to adult rail enthusiasts.
Hakusan City has a deep connection to the railway industry, serving as a 'railway town' that houses the JR West Hakusan General Rolling Stock Depot and the Hokura Railway Ishikawa Line vehicle factory. This facility was established to preserve and pass on railway technology knowledge while contributing to local tourism by offering a unique way to witness the Shinkansen in action.
The facility is divided into several specialized areas based on the type of experience offered:
Explore actual components used in the Hokuriku Shinkansen, such as bogies and pantographs. This area also features driving simulators that utilize parts from real train cabs.
A dedicated space for children featuring large indoor play structures where kids can stay active and have fun.
Watch the inspection and maintenance of Shinkansen trains through large windows. A connecting walkway allows you to feel the atmosphere of a professional railway maintenance site.
The highlight of the facility! This area offers a direct view of the Shinkansen as it cruises along the main line. The scheduled passing times are posted so you can time your visit to witness the breathtaking sight of trains passing at speeds exceeding 200 km/h.
Since most of the facility consists of indoor exhibits and observation areas, it is an excellent option regardless of the weather. On clear days, the observation deck may even offer views of the distant Hakusan Mountain Range. To see the most dynamic scenes, try to time your visit with the posted Shinkansen passing schedule.
Beyond the technical exhibits, visitors can enjoy the driving simulators. There are two types available—'Large' and 'Small'—each offering a different feel to simulate the sensation of operating a train. The facility also provides a great way for children to play in the dedicated play zones.
The 1st floor features a 'Tourism Information & Souvenirs Area,' providing travel information for Hakusan City and neighboring areas like Nomi, Nonoichi, and Kitakoshi. You can also purchase local specialties and exclusive Train Park Hakusan merchandise to remember your trip.
Some areas within the facility may require specific tickets depending on the exhibit. While there are no strict dress codes, comfortable walking shoes are recommended for moving between floors and viewing areas.
