Tome Koko-kan is a historical exhibition facility located in Tome City, Miyagi Prefecture. The museum showcases artifacts related to the castles that once stood in this region and provides a deep understanding of the local historical background through its extensive collections.
The area was once the site of Tameike Castle. Historically, the region was under the rule of the Kasai clan before transitioning to the control of the Date clan. During the era of the Date clan, the castle served as a vital strategic stronghold for the region. Although its role as a fortress ended following the Meiji Restoration, many historical remains and artifacts that tell the story of this era are preserved here.
The museum features a wide variety of materials related to local history, with a focus on items that symbolize the region's past and its connection to former castle structures. A standout feature is the building itself, which was designed by the renowned architect Kengo Kuma.
