Guide
Tokachi Millennium Forest is a vast forest garden in the Tokachi region of Hokkaido that seamlessly blends forest management, agriculture, and art. Operating under the concept of "passing down a legacy to 1,000 years in the future," the park focuses on coexistence with nature. Visitors can find profound healing and inspiration within its expansive lawns, the majestic views of the Hidaka Mountains, and the sophisticated garden designs that reflect a deep respect for the environment.
This site is more than just a park; it originated from a commitment to carbon offsetting and environmental contribution. The project integrates forests, gardens, agriculture, art, and gastronomy to preserve the natural environment for future generations. The landscape was shaped by the philosophy of British garden designer Dan Pearson, ensuring that the scenery remains in harmony with natural processes. Located at the foot of the Hidaka Mountains, the park carefully manages and showcases precious natural resources, including unique glacial landforms.

The park features diverse areas that harmonize with the natural surroundings. Key attractions include the vast green lawns, contemporary art installations, and sculptures made from natural materials like Hekiseki (greenstone). The observation areas offering panoramic views of the Hidaka Mountain range are particularly popular among photographers. Whether it is the seasonal changes of the flora or the feeling of life within the crisp, clear air, every visit offers a new perspective. The use of natural textures in art pieces further highlights the connection between the land and human creativity.
The peak season for visiting is from spring through autumn. You can enjoy the changing beauty of the landscape from late April through June, during the summer months of July and August, and into the autumn season from September to October. During the summer (July–August), we highly recommend exploring the wide-open grasslands during the bright daylight hours to experience the full vitality of the landscape. The colors of the plants and the expression of the scenery shift significantly with the seasons, providing a unique experience every time you visit.

To make the most of the expansive grounds, a variety of activities are available. The most popular is the Segway tour. Using these eco-friendly, electric-powered vehicles, you can experience a sense of floating as you glide through the vast grasslands, feeling the fresh forest air with all your senses. Other programs include nature observation, seasonal events, and experiences related to local agriculture and food, allowing for a deep connection with the Tokachi environment.
The Tokachi region is famous for its sprawling farmlands and breathtaking scenery. Driving through the area while enjoying the views of the Hidachi Mountains is a highlight of any trip. The region also boasts a rich food culture centered around local agricultural products, making it a perfect destination for travelers interested in the harmony between nature and gastronomy.

As most activities take place in a natural environment, we strongly recommend wearing comfortable clothing and walking shoes. If you plan to participate in a Segway tour, please avoid wearing skirts or high heels, and bring a backpack or waist pouch to keep your hands free. Please note that pets are not allowed on the premises to protect the natural environment. For activities requiring reservations, such as the Segway tour, please check the official website in advance for details.
