Guide
Tokachi Ranch is a vital center for the development of Japan's livestock industry, operated by the National Livestock Breeding Center. The facility specializes in the improvement and breeding of diverse livestock, including beef cattle, dairy cattle, heavy horses, and sheep, playing a crucial role in supplying high-quality livestock and genetic material across the country. Additionally, the site manages the production of livestock feed and the propagation of superior seeds. A highlight of the ranch is the observation deck, which offers a magnificent view of the vast Tokachi Plain and its stunning natural landscapes.
The mission of this facility is to contribute to the development of Japan's livestock industry and ensure a rich food supply through advanced livestock improvement techniques. As a site for implementing cutting-edge livestock technology, it has long served as a foundation for the nation's agricultural stability. Beyond being a simple production site, it remains a critical institution that combines technical research with practical application in the field of Japanese animal husbandry.

One of the greatest charms of Tokachi Ranch is the breathtaking scenery enabled by its vast territory. The observation deck, in particular, provides a panoramic view of the Tokachi region, offering visitors a profound sense of openness and freedom. As a site where various livestock like beef cattle, dairy cattle, heavy horses, and sheep are being improved, it allows you to witness the front lines of Japanese livestock technology. The changing seasonal colors of the Tokachi landscape also make every visit a unique experience.
While certain areas of the ranch are accessible 24 hours a day, we highly recommend visiting during the bright daylight hours to fully enjoy the scenery. On clear days, the vibrant greenery of the Tokachi Plain and the deep blue of the sky create a spectacular view from the observation deck. The landscape shifts beautifully with the seasons, with the lush green scenery from spring to summer providing a truly healing experience for visitors.

Rather than a traditional recreational facility for tourists, this site is primarily a professional 'worksite' supporting Japan's livestock industry. The main experience is the opportunity to refresh your mind while gazing at the vastness of Tokachi from the observation deck. Please note that access to specific areas where livestock rearing and breeding take place is strictly prohibited; the primary way to enjoy the site is by admiring the surrounding landscape from a distance.
The area surrounding Tokachi Ranch is a premier agricultural and livestock region representing Hokkaido. Near Obihiro and Otomari, you will find many facilities where you can enjoy delicious local produce and dairy products, making it an excellent base for Tokachi sightseeing. We recommend renting a car to enjoy a scenic drive through the surrounding farm landscapes and rural scenery.
