Terayama Ikoi no Hiroba is a multi-purpose park located on a scenic plateau at an altitude of 247m in Satsumasendai City, Kagoshima Prefecture. The expansive grounds host a variety of facilities, including the "Sendai Space Museum" (a science exhibition center), the "Shonen Shizen no Ie" (a youth lodging facility), sports fields, and go-kart tracks. The park offers breathtaking views of the Sendai River below and, depending on the weather and season, even the Koshikijima Islands floating in the East China Sea.
This area has been developed as a regional hub that combines the natural environment with education and recreation. The adjacent "Sendai Space Museum" serves as an essential facility for deepening understanding of astronomy and science, playing a vital role in local education and youth development. The surrounding area is also home to various local museums and literary centers, making it a significant place to learn about the local culture and nature.

The park offers diverse attractions to keep visitors of all ages entertained. In spring, you can stroll through a beautiful cherry blossom grove featuring approximately 400 trees. The flower gardens also feature seasonal blooms such as tulips, rapeseed flowers, and cosmos throughout the year. For science enthusiasts, the Sendai Space Museum offers astronomical observations using a large 50cm aperture reflecting telescope and various space-themed exhibits. For families, the park includes go-karts, mini electric cars, and areas to interact with animals, making it a perfect destination for all generations.
The charm of the park lies in its changing seasonal expressions. In spring (around April), the cherry blossoms are in full bloom alongside colorful tulips and pansies. In summer, enjoy lush seasonal greenery, and in autumn, witness the graceful swaying of cosmos flowers. The park is also highly recommended for nighttime visits; on clear nights, you can experience professional-grade stargazing in coordination with the Sendai Space Museum's operating hours. We recommend daytime visits for active recreation and nighttime visits for a mystical encounter with the stars.

From active outdoor play to quiet learning, there is something for everyone. Popular activities include driving go-karts or mini electric cars, observing rabbits in the animal area, and enjoying sports on the wide grass fields. At the Sendai Space Museum, visitors can engage in scientific learning through space-themed games and interactive exhibits. Additionally, the rest house features meeting rooms and Japanese-style rooms, making it a convenient spot for group gatherings or a sheltered place for lunch during rainy weather.
The surrounding Satsumasendai area is rich in cultural and historical-learning facilities. Nearby landmarks such as the Sendai History Museum, the Sendai Makokoro Literature Museum, and the Central Library allow visitors to combine a nature walk with a deeper understanding of local heritage. The "Shonen Shizen no Ie" lodging facility is also located on-site, serving as a base for educational events and overnight-stay programs.

For activities within the park, comfortable clothing and walking shoes are highly recommended, especially if you plan to use the go-karts or explore the sports fields. Please note that many facilities primarily accept cash payments. To maintain public order and safety, the use of open flames, bringing pets (dogs/cats), selling goods, or practicing golf is strictly prohibited within the park.
