Mount Tengu is a beautiful, nature-rich mountain located in Otaru, Hokkaido. It is a popular sightseeing destination easily accessible via a scenic ropeway. From the summit, visitors can enjoy a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of the Otaru cityscape, the vast Sea of Japan, and even a spectacular sea of clouds during certain seasons. At the summit, facilities like "TENGUU Terrace" offer an open-air space to relax while soaking in the view. Depending on the weather, you might even witness the mystical phenomenon of a sea of clouds, providing a truly magical experience.
Mount Tengu offers different charms depending on the season. From spring to autumn, the mountain is perfect for outdoor activities like ziplining and mountain sliders. Summer is particularly recommended for enjoying the refreshing mountain breeze. In winter, the area transforms into a ski resort, offering beautiful snowy landscapes. For those seeking a romantic atmosphere, the night views are spectacular. Please note that the last ropeway departure is at 20:48, and the last descending gondola is at 21:00, so plan your evening accordingly.
At the summit, you can experience high-adrenaline activities. A standout attraction is the Zipline, where you glide through the air via a wire from the observation deck. Another popular activity is the Grass Slider (Grass Bobsled), which allows you to slide down the grassy hills. Please note that these activities have specific operating seasons and may be subject to weather conditions. Additionally, the summit cafe offers seasonal drink menus that allow you to enjoy local flavors while overlooking the scenery.
The base of Mount Tengu is surrounded by the historic charm of Otaru. You can easily combine your visit to Mount Tengu with a tour of the Otaru Canal, its historic architecture, and the local seafood markets. The area is easily accessible by car, with ample parking available at the foot of the mountain.
It is important to dress appropriately for the season. Even in summer, the temperature at the summit can drop, so we recommend bringing a light jacket. If you plan to use the zipline or slider, please wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes. The Zipline has specific requirements: a minimum height of 120cm and a maximum weight of 120kg. For safety, alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited when using these activities. While most facilities accept credit cards and transportation IC cards, it is always wise to carry some cash for smaller vendors.
