Tawadaira Observatory is a premier lookout point located in Shibecha, Hokkaido, offering an unparalleled 360-degree panoramic view. The most striking feature is the unobstructed view of the horizon. The scenery changes beautifully throughout the year, but the period from May to October is particularly stunning when the grasslands are a vibrant, lush green. Visitors typically enjoy the expansive views of the horizon during the bright daylight hours and switch to stargazing at night. For the best stargazing experience, visiting at night when the air is clear and streetlights are non-existent is highly recommended.
Beyond just viewing the scenery, you can experience an overnight stay at the Tawadaira Campground located at the foot of the observatory. The campsite offers an open, refreshing environment surrounded by beautiful lawns, where you can gaze at the horizon right from your tent. With nearby facilities like the local restaurant and shop, you can fully relax while feeling the essence of Hokkaido.

As most payments at the campsite or local shop are handled in cash, please ensure you carry enough Japanese Yen. English-language support and signage may be limited, so please plan accordingly.
