Tarumizu Senbon Ichouen is a vast park in Tarumizu City, Kagoshima Prefecture, featuring approximately 1,200 ginkgo trees. Known as a 'Golden Paradise,' this site was painstakingly developed by its owner over many years. During the peak season, the entire landscape is dyed in a vibrant golden hue, creating a mystical world reminiscent of a cinematic masterpiece. It is a premier scenic spot in Tarumichi that represents a perfect fusion of natural beauty and human passion.
The history of this ginkgo grove began in 1978. The owner, along with a partner, began by reclaiming a desolate mountain area and gradually transforming it through decades of hard work. It took approximately 40 years of dedicated cultivation to shape the beautiful ginkgo avenues seen today. The site's stunning landscape and the owner's passion for cultivation have earned it numerous awards. Today, the park is open to the public, cherished by many travelers seeking natural beauty.
The greatest attraction is the 'Golden Scenery' of autumn. The sight of ginkgo trees lining the 4.5-hectare area as they turn gold is truly overwhelming. Another highlight is the 'Healing Hill,' the highest point in the park. From here, you can enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the Tarumizu cityscape. There are two benches located on the hill, allowing you to relax and spend a peaceful time with family or friends while gazing at the view.
The best time to visit is from late October to November, when the ginkgo leaves reach their most beautiful golden color. We highly recommend timing your visit during this window. Additionally, special light-up events are held during certain periods. From dusk into the night, the illuminated golden trees present a different, more romantic and mystical expression than they do during the day. Checking the current foliage status before your visit will ensure you witness the peak moment.
Here, you can experience 'quiet time' to heal both mind and body. Sit on a bench, look out over the landscape, and forget the hustle and bustle of daily life. It is also an exceptional spot for photography; walking through the golden paths with a camera is a memory that will last a lifetime. The seasonal light-up events add a touch of magic to your evening.
Tarumizu City is dotted with other spots where you can enjoy rich nature and local cuisine. When driving through the area, we recommend exploring the nearby coastlines and enjoying local gourmet-style food. Experience the slow, relaxing pace of life unique to Kagoshima while enjoying the changing seasonal landscapes.
As the park is a natural environment, we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Since temperatures can change depending on the season and time of day, it is wise to bring layers for temperature adjustment. While the park is on private property, it is open to the public free of charge. Please respect the nature and follow local etiquette. Regarding access, most visitors arrive by car as public transportation is limited. Temporary parking lots are often provided during peak seasons.
