If you are visiting to see the 'Diamond Fuji' (for example, in late April or late August), it is essential to check the sunrise time and direction in advance. Because air transparency and light contrast change with the seasons, you can experience a different side of Mt. Fuji's beauty depending on when you visit.
The area around the observatory is a popular field for nature walks and photography. You can access the site via a walking path from the northern parking lot (about a 5-minute walk), allowing you to enjoy nature as you approach. Around Lake Tanuki, visitors can also enjoy activities such as boating, cycling, and camping. There are many spots nearby to enjoy the outdoors. Along the shores of Lake Tanuki, you can enjoy boating and fishing. Access to the observatory is on foot from the northern parking lot. While the paths are maintained, there are some steps and slopes, so comfortable walking shoes (such as sneakers) are recommended. If you visit before dawn or in the early morning, temperatures can drop significantly, so bringing warm clothing and a flashlight is highly recommended. During rainy or snowy seasons, paths can become slippery, so waterproof footwear is a plus.
