Takeno Hama Beach is a breathtaking seaside destination located along the northern coast of Hyogo Prefecture. The beach is characterized by a beautiful 1km stretch of fine, white sand and is officially recognized with a 'Water Quality AA' rating—the highest possible grade from the Ministry of the Environment. The water is exceptionally clear, offering high visibility even at your feet. Because the seabed is naturally shallow and gentle (far-shallow topography), it is a safe and welcoming environment for a wide range of visitors, from young children to adults.
The area is part of the San'in Kaigan Geopark, a region renowned for its rich natural beauty and unique geological formations. The coastline has been shaped by nature over millennia, and the beach has been developed to preserve this scenic charm while providing modern leisure facilities. Visitors can still experience the traditional 'Hama-chaya' style of coastal relaxation—a rustic, Japanese-style seaside culture that offers a more authentic and peaceful atmosphere than modern, commercialized beach cafes.
The most striking feature is the contrast between the brilliant white sand and the deep blue, transparent sea. The sand is incredibly fine and soft to the touch. Additionally, the lack of excessive seaweed makes for a comfortable swimming experience. The central part of the beach is particularly shallow, providing a safe zone for children to play in the water without fear.
The beach season typically runs from early July to late August. To witness the most vivid contrast between the white sand and the turquoise water, we recommend visiting during the bright daylight hours of midday. If you prefer a more tranquil experience, visiting during the morning hours of the summer vacation period can help you avoid the peak crowds.
Visitors can enjoy a traditional Japanese seaside experience. The beach features 'Hama-chaya' facilities, where you can take a break in a well-ventilated, traditional Japanese-style room. Nearby, there are also various leisure activities and facilities, such as those related to 'Takeno Lagoon,' allowing for a full day of maritime fun.
The area surrounding Takeno Hama is a scenic landscape rich in nature. To the west, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Nekozaki Peninsula and its rugged coastline. Most visitors access the beach by car, as the area is well-equipped with parking lots and essential facilities.
To enjoy your stay, please bring swimwear, sandals, and sun protection (sunscreen/hats). When using the Hama-chaya facilities, it is helpful to have a change of clothes and tools for cleaning off sand. Please note that parking fees vary depending on the type of vehicle, so we recommend checking the rates in advance. Please respect the local environment and maintain proper beach etiquette.
