Takaosanguchi Station is the terminal stop of the Keio Line, located in Takao, Hachioji, Tokyo. Serving as the essential gateway for hikers and tourists heading to Mt. The Keio Line opened on October 1, 1967. The station's name reflects its role as the final stop on the line and the primary access point for Mt. Takao. A major transformation occurred with the completion of the new station building on April 24, 2015. This redesign shifted the station from a standard transit point to a space that emphasizes harmony with nature. By incorporating local natural resources like cedar, the architecture serves as a symbol of the local landscape and the cultural heritage of the Mt. Takao area.
The most striking feature is the architectural design. The use of natural wood textures in Kengo Kuma's design creates a warm, inviting atmosphere that captivates visitors. The station plaza was also expanded to nearly twice its original size, providing a spacious and open area for travelers to gather.
Takaosanguchi Station experiences different charms throughout the year. It becomes particularly lively during the peak hiking seasons of spring (cherry blossoms) and autumn (foliage). Since the station operates according to the train schedule, it is an ideal place to start your hike early in the morning or to relax and unwind after your descent.
