The Takamatsu City Museum of Art is a cultural landmark located in the center of Takamatsu City, Kagawa. Following a major renovation in 2016, the museum provides a modern space to explore a collection of over 1,700 works. The collection is built upon three main pillars: Post-war Japanese Contemporary Art, 20th-century Global Art (specifically prints), and the Traditional Arts and Crafts of Kagawa. The museum also engages in creative activities linked to major regional events like the Setouchi Triennale.
The museum's roots date back to 1949, when it was established as a local public museum originally located within the scenic Ritsurin Garden. In 1988, it moved to its current location in central Takamatsu. A significant renovation in 2016 transformed the facility into a more contemporary and accessible space. Today, the museum plays a crucial role in preserving regional culture and fostering creativity for the next generation through various educational programs.
The core of the museum is its exceptional collection of contemporary art. The museum is highly regarded both in Japan and internationally for its post-war Japanese art and world-class print collections. Standard opening hours are from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM (including weekends and holidays). However, during periods when special exhibitions are held, the museum extends its hours until 7:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays. This allows visitors to enjoy the unique atmosphere of a 'night museum.' The charm of the museum changes with the seasons through various planned exhibitions, artist talks, and workshops.

To protect the artworks, photography is restricted in certain areas. While standard casual attire is perfectly fine, comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
