Takamatsu Beach is a beautiful coastal area located at the southernmost tip of Kushima City, Miyazaki Prefecture. A defining feature of this beach is the presence of Yogose Island, an uninhabited island situated just offshore. This island acts as a natural breakwater, shielding the coast from heavy waves and maintaining exceptionally calm water surfaces. Furthermore, the seabed features a gentle, shallow slope, meaning the water depth changes gradually. This makes it a safe and enjoyable environment for children and families who may not be experienced swimmers. The high level of water transparency offers a breathtakingly beautiful view of the ocean.

The official swimming season typically runs from mid-July to late August. During this period, the bright daylight hours are ideal for swimming and enjoying marine activities in the transparent water. Toward the evening, you can witness a stunning display of changing colors in the sky over the ocean. Please note that swimming activities are restricted to this specific seasonal window, so be sure to check the dates before your visit.
The calm sea conditions make this an excellent spot for water sports, particularly SUP (Stand Up Paddleboarding). Local facilities often provide opportunities for SUP board rentals and introductory lessons, allowing you to experience the tranquility of the ocean surface. Additionally, by utilizing the adjacent Takamatsu Camp Park, you can combine a day at the beach with an outdoor camping experience.
Immediately adjacent to Takamatsu Beach is the Takamatsu Camp Park, where you can enjoy camping and picnics. If you are looking for more to do, Shibushi Daikoku Iruka Land is a short drive away, offering experiences such as interacting with dolphins. Other sightseeing spots, such as Cape Toi, are also scattered throughout the surrounding region.
To enjoy the beach, please prepare swimwear, a rash guard, sandals, and sunscreen. A paid shower facility (fresh water only) is available on-site. Since the beach is adjacent to a camping park, you may also want to bring leisure sheets or camping gear. As a matter of etiquette, please ensure you take all your trash home with you and follow the rules of the camping park and designated areas.
