Togenuki Koko-ji is a Soto Zen Buddhist temple located in Sugamo, Toshima City, Tokyo. It is widely known by its popular name, 'Togenuki Jizo-son.' The temple is deeply revered for its devotion to Enmei Jizo Bosatsu, the Bodhisattva of longevity. A unique spiritual practice involves the 'Mikai' (sacred image) of the deity, where practitioners pray for recovery from illness. Another distinctive tradition is the 'Arai Kannon' (Washing Kannon), where visitors can wash a specific part of a sacred Kannon statue to seek healing for that part of their body. Since you will likely explore the nearby shopping district afterward, it is useful to carry cash or electronic money. If you are visiting with a pet, please note that they must be kept in a cart or a carrier to enter the main hall; they cannot enter with just a leash.
