Takahata Winery is a facility dedicated to the production and sale of Japanese wine, established in 1990 in Takahata Town, Higashimogami District, Yamagata Prefecture. The winery is characterized by its use of locally grown grapes and the pristine natural environment of the Tohoku region. The facility includes an area to observe the wine-making process, a winery shop staffed by certified sommeliers, and "Gotzonare Takahata," a facility where you can enjoy light meals. Founded in September 1990 as an affiliate of a South Kyushu Coca-Cola Bottling company, the winery was established with the goal of producing and selling local wines made from Yamagata-grown grapes. This history is deeply intertwined with the local agricultural community. Through years of dedicated craftsmanship, the winery has earned numerous accolades, including a consistent five-star rating at the "Japan Winery Awards" and gold medals at the "Decanter World Wine Awards," earning high praise both domestically and internationally.

The highlight of Takahata Winery is the opportunity to witness the actual production process through factory tours. In the boutique shop, visitors can select wines based on the professional expertise of on-site sommeliers. Additionally, at the attached "Gotzonare Takahata," you can enjoy a relaxing time paired with delicious light meals. The facility is open year-round, though operating hours vary by season. From April to November, the facility is open until 17:00, and from December to March, it closes at 16:30. Visiting between spring and autumn is highly recommended to experience the different stages of grape growth and the wine aging process. Please note that on weekends and public holidays, opening times may start as early as 9:00; we recommend checking your schedule in advance.
Visitors can engage in various wine-related activities, such as observing the manufacturing process and participating in tastings. At the shop, you can receive specialized information from knowledgeable staff. The attached restaurant offers light meals designed to complement the flavors of the wine, allowing you to understand the holistic process from production to the dining table.
Takahata Town offers a beautiful natural landscape with a climate and terrain perfectly suited for viticulture. The winery is conveniently located approximately a 10-minute walk from JR Takahata Station, making it easy to visit while exploring other local attractions. It is also situated near other wineries and agricultural spots in Yamagata, making it a perfect stop on a Tohoku food and culture tour.
As the facility involves observing production processes and wine tasting, visitors are encouraged to dress neatly. While there is no strict dress code, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Please note that photography may be restricted in certain areas; please follow the instructions of the staff on-site.
