A major highlight is the ability to view the UNESCO World Heritage site, Hashima (Gunkanjima), from the shore, providing a deeply scenic and historical landscape.

The greatest draw of Takahama Beach is its incredible water clarity and rich marine ecosystem. Just a few meters from the shore, coral reefs spread across the seabed, allowing visitors to observe clownfish, sea anemones, and various colorful tropical fish through snorkeling. Additionally, you can see the silhouette of the former coal mining island, Gunkanjima (Hashima), on the horizon. The sight of the industrial ruins floating amidst the blue sky and sea is a unique spectacle found only here. In the late afternoon, the view becomes even more magical as the silhouette of Gunkanjima emerges against the setting sun over the East China Sea.
The beach is primarily operational during the peak summer season from July to August. During this period, various facilities such as beach umbrellas are available. The bright daylight hours are perfect for snorkeling to observe the coral reefs and marine life. For those seeking photogenic scenery, the 'magic hour' at dusk is highly recommended, as the sky turns vibrant shades of orange and the silhouette of Gunkanjima creates a dramatic and beautiful backdrop.
Beyond just swimming, the area offers an immersive experience through snorkeling. You can encounter vibrant marine life like clownfish and various tropical fish near the coral reefs. Depending on the season and water conditions, wearing a wetsuit may be recommended to enjoy the environment more comfortably. To enjoy swimming and snorkeling, we recommend preparing swimwear, a change of clothes, a hat, and sunscreen to protect against the sun. If you plan to snorkel, bringing a board or equipment to help you see clearly underwater is beneficial.
