Tajihayume Hime Jinja is a historic shrine located in Miyamadai, Minami Ward, Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture. It has been deeply cherished by the local community for offering various types of prayers, including those for safe childbirth, traffic safety, protection against misfortune, academic success, and family prosperity. The shrine grounds are enveloped in a calm, tranquil air, making it an ideal place to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and find mental peace.
This shrine possesses a long-standing history as one of the twenty-four shrines listed in the Engishiki (an ancient record of laws and rituals) from the Izumi Province. Throughout its history, the shrine has undergone various transitions, including a period of Shinto-Buddhist syncretism, eventually evolving into its current form. Today, it serves as a vital center of faith for the local community, welcoming many visitors seeking spiritual connection.
The shrine grounds feature the main sanctuary dedicated to the deity Tajihayume Hime-no-mikoto, surrounded by numerous sub-shrines (sessha and massha). These include Sakakami Shrine, Kamoda Shrine, Daijinsha, Sumiyoshi-sha, Amaterasu-sha, Hachiman-sha, Kasuga-sha, Kumano-sha, Hakusan-sha, Benten-sha, Inari-sha, Fukuishi-sha, and Suiten-gu. Each shrine is dedicated to different divine aspects, allowing visitors to offer prayers for diverse needs. The surrounding area is also well-maintained as a park, offering a pleasant environment for nature walks.
For the best experience, we recommend visiting in the morning when the air is at its freshest. The time between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM is particularly wonderful for receiving prayers in a refreshing atmosphere. While the shrine's appearance changes beautifully with the seasons, visiting during the bright daylight hours allows you to fully appreciate the lush greenery and the intricate arrangement of the various sub-shrines.
Visitors can experience traditional Japanese Shinto rituals through formal prayers (kito). The shrine is specialized in offering prayers tailored to individual needs, such as safe childbirth, traffic safety, and family well-being. The reception hours for prayers are Monday to Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and Sunday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. No prior reservation is required; simply visit during the designated hours to witness and participate in traditional Japanese spiritual practices.
The shrine grounds are integrated with Arayama Park, providing a nature-rich environment. After your visit to the shrine, we recommend strolling through the surrounding park area to soak in the gentle, peaceful atmosphere of the neighborhood. It is a quiet space that exists in perfect harmony with the surrounding residential area.
When visiting, please observe the standard etiquette of a Shinto shrine by behaving quietly and respectfully. While there are no strict dress codes, comfortable walking shoes are recommended for exploring the grounds. If you wish to receive a formal prayer, please ensure you arrive during the reception hours. Additionally, please be mindful of other worshippers when taking photographs within the shrine premises.
