Taiyo Park is a fascinating theme park located at the foot of Mt. Misou in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture. The park is divided into two distinct zones: the "Stone Area," filled with massive stone structures, and the "Castle Area" located at the mountain summit. The Stone Area features grand replicas such as the Great Wall of China, the Pyramids, and the Terracotta Army, offering a breathtaking and surreal landscape. To reach the beautiful Swan Castle at the summit, visitors can enjoy a scenic ride on the park's dedicated monorail.
The facility began its journey on October 1, 1992, with the opening of the "Stone Area." The "Castle Area" was later added on April 19, 2009, completing the current layout. Interestingly, the park is operated by the Aiko Social Welfare Association. The facility serves as a place of employment for people with disabilities, and the revenue from admission fees is used to support social welfare programs. This unique model blends leisure with social contribution. Historically, the park has also hosted special events, such as fire festivals in August.
The park boasts a variety of exhibits recreated in near-life size. In the Stone Area, you can walk along a 2-kilometer stretch of the Great Wall of China, visit the Terracotta Army exhibition hall featuring 1,000 figures, and see replicas of the Egyptian Pyramids, the Sphinx, Machu Picchu, the Arc de Triomphe, and Tiananmen Square. You will also encounter Moai statues from Easter Island and the Merlion. The highlight of the Castle Area is the "Swan Castle," which features an exterior reminiscent of the Neuschwanstein Castle in southern Germany. The journey to the castle via the monorail (slope car) is a highlight in itself.
Taiyo Park is open year-round, making it a versatile destination for any season. Daytime is ideal for strolling through the vast grounds, riding the monorail, and admiring the massive stone monuments. Depending on the timing of your visit, you might encounter special events such as supercar exhibitions, classic car meets, cosplay gatherings, or live music performances, which offer a much more dynamic experience than standard sightseeing.
Beyond sightseeing, the park offers cultural experiences, such as the "Takumi no Machi Rainbow," where you can observe traditional craft demonstrations. The "Welcome House Swan" at the foot of the mountain serves as a central hub, offering a restaurant and souvenir shop for relaxation. The monorail is the primary and most enjoyable way to ascend to the Swan Castle. Additionally, keep an eye out for seasonal events related to automobiles and music.
Located at the foot of the mountains in Himeji, the park is surrounded by beautiful natural scenery. The area is also close to other historical sites like Himeji Castle. To reach the park, visitors typically take a bus from JR Himeji Station. Please note that a free shuttle bus may operate from Yabu Station on the Kanzaki Line, so it is recommended to check the current schedule in advance.
Because the park is vast and includes hilly, mountainous terrain, comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended. While the monorail is available to reach the Swan Castle, walking is also an option. Regarding payments, please check on-site for the acceptance of cash, credit cards, or IC cards. While English signage and support vary by season and event, most major facilities are easy to navigate. No advanced reservation is required for standard entry, but checking ahead for special events is advised.
