The most striking feature is the procession of seven ceremonial floats, known as 'dashi.' A highlight of the festival is the intense 'musical duel' (ohayashi) that occurs when two floats pass each other, accompanied by the sight of female dancers performing gracefully atop the moving floats.

The festival takes place annually in October over two days: October 11th and 12th.

• *October 11th:** The ceremony begins with a departure ceremony at 1:40 PM, followed by the daytime procession starting at 2:00 PM, and the evening procession starting at 5:00 PM.
• *October 12th:** The day begins with the Mikoshi Togyo (portable shrine procession) at 8:00 AM, followed by a departure ceremony at 1:40 PM, a daytime procession at 2:00 PM, and an evening procession at 5:00 PM. The evening sessions are particularly atmospheric, with the sounds of the music echoing through the night streets.

Experiences & Activities

Visitors can experience the power of the floats, the dancers, and the music up close along the procession routes. The area also hosts cultural activities such as a stamp rally to encourage exploring the town. The stamp rally is conducted using the 'Town Collect' app, where you can collect digital stamps at designated locations throughout the town.

The festival takes place in the urban areas of Shimonita Town, primarily around Route 254 and the vicinity of Shimonita Station. Please be aware that traffic restrictions will be in place during the festival. For example, on the 11th, restrictions apply from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and on the 12th, restrictions are in place from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
