Sumie Beach is located on the northern part of the Hyuga-nada coast and has been selected as one of the "100 Beautiful Beaches" by the Ministry of the Environment. Due to the unique rias coastline topography, the waves are exceptionally calm and the water is shallow. This makes it a safe and relaxing environment for families with small children to enjoy swimming. The coastline also features expansive, well-maintained grassy lawns, making it a popular spot for both seaside leisure and relaxing picnics.
The area is situated in the heart of the Nichinan Kaigan Quasi-National Park. While maintaining its rich natural landscape, the area has been developed into a leisure hub where locals and tourists can coexist harmoniously with nature. Nearby facilities, such as "Beach Forest Sumie," serve as a base for promoting the local charm through nature-based recreation.
The greatest charm of Sumie Beach lies in its gentle sea and well-developed surrounding facilities. Along the shore, you will find wooden picnic tables where you can rest and enjoy the breeze. A notable feature is the "SUN Beach Sumie Bridge," a wooden bridge that connects the beach area to the land-based facilities, allowing for smooth movement by foot or bicycle. The official swimming season typically runs from mid-July to August 31st. During the summer, the landscape is a beautiful blend of bright blue ocean and lush greenery. On sunny days, the sunlight filtering through the trees onto the grass creates a breathtaking view. While the bright daytime hours are perfect for swimming and water play, the sun can be intense, so we recommend using the shade or picnic tables for breaks.

When visiting, please bring swimwear, a change of clothes, towels, and sunscreen. The facility is equipped with showers (paid), changing rooms, and restrooms. For smooth transactions, please carry small denominations of cash (such as 100 yen coins) for the shower usage. To protect the natural environment, please ensure you take your trash home with you. If you plan to participate in activities like diving in the area, we recommend checking with local operators in advance.
