Sotomo is a designated national scenic spot located on the Uchiumi Peninsula in Obama City, Fukui Prefecture. The landscape is characterized by dynamic sea caves, unique rock formations, and steep cliffs shaped by the relentless waves of the Sea of Japan. Along the approximately 6km coastline, nature has sculpted a continuous series of breathtaking geological structures that captivate every visitor. By boarding a sightseeing boat from Wakasa Fisherman's Wharf, you can experience this spectacular view from a sea-level perspective—a view that is impossible to fully appreciate from the land.
This region has a long history of deep cultural exchange with the ancient capital and is known as a treasure trove of cultural assets. The scenery of Sotomo itself was formed over countless years as the power of the ocean eroded granite. This area has long been recognized as a place where the raw power and the beauty of nature coexist. During the sightseeing cruise, you will encounter a succession of various sea caves (holes in the rock face) and complex, uniquely shaped rock formations.
