Tokyo Skytree, located in Sumida City, Tokyo, is the world's tallest free-standing broadcasting tower. The structure consists of two main observation levels: the Tembo Deck at a height of 350 meters and the Tembo Galleria at 450 meters. It offers a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of the Tokyo skyline, where the scenery transforms beautifully depending on the weather and time of day. The highest reachable point is the Sorakara Point at 451.2 meters.
Tokyo Skytree serves a dual purpose as both a functional broadcasting tower and a major tourist attraction. It was constructed as a landmark to contribute to the local landscape and the development of the surrounding area. The construction project utilized Japan's advanced engineering capabilities, resulting in a structure designed with high safety standards against earthquakes and strong winds. The observation facilities are divided into two distinct areas. The first is the Tembo Deck (Floors 340–350), which features a unique "glass floor" made of five layers of 8mm reinforced glass (4cm total thickness), allowing you to feel the incredible sense of height beneath your feet. This floor also hosts exhibits such as "Tokyo Time Space Navigation" and replicas of Edo-period folding screens.
The second area is the Tembo Galleria (Floors 445–450), a special corridor accessed via a dedicated elevator. From near the Sorakara Point, the highest point, you can enjoy an even more elevated perspective of the city. These areas offer diverse experiences, from crystal-clear views on sunny days to the mesmerizing, sparkling nightscapes of Tokyo.
The view changes significantly based on weather conditions. On clear days, the panorama extends vast distances, but please note that operations may be suspended or restricted during bad weather, typhoons, or high winds to ensure safety. At night, the tower offers a spectacular view of the city lights. Depending on the season, special light-up events and seasonal illuminations are often held.
At the observation decks, you can experience the thrill of height through the glass floor sections. The 350m floor provides visual information through exhibits like "Tokyo Time Space Navigation," blending history with modern technology. The journey to the Tembo Galleria via a dedicated elevator is designed as an immersive process, where the perspective shifts as you ascend to higher altitudes.
At the base of the tower lies Tokyo Skytree Town, a massive commercial complex. This area features numerous restaurants, shops, and cafes, making it a perfect spot for dining or shopping during your visit. The development is tailored to the unique characteristics of the Sumida district.
