Shofukujiyama Park is located in the Akiitsu area of Higashihiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Situated on a high vantage point, the park offers an expansive, open view of the Seto Inland Sea, which can even reach as far as Shikoku on a clear day. It is a renowned destination for cherry blossom lovers, with approximately 1,000 Yoshino cherry trees blooming beautifully in the spring. A standout feature is the observation deck that juts out toward the sea, allowing visitors to look down upon the unique local landscape of oyster farms (kaki-ikada) stretching across the water.
The park serves as a beloved community space that celebrates the natural beauty of the region. During the cherry blossom season, the atmosphere is enhanced by the installation of traditional lanterns throughout the park to celebrate the local scenery. The view is also deeply connected to the local industry; from this height, you can see the lights of the "Man-no-ji" on Mt. Hono and the industrial lights of the shipyard cranes in Mitsu Bay, creating a unique nocturnal landscape that blends nature with local maritime culture.

The park features two main observation decks. The deck extending toward the sea provides an immersive experience, making you feel as though you are floating above the calm waters of the Seto Inland Sea and the countless oyster farms. During the spring season, the night illumination of the cherry blossoms creates a magical atmosphere, harmonizing the pink blossoms with the distant lights of the shipyards and Mt. Hono. For those visiting with families, the park offers various ways to enjoy the space, including benches for relaxing and a playground area with swings and slides located along the mountain paths.
The most vibrant time to visit is during the spring (March to April) when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. During this period, the night illuminations offer a spectacular way to enjoy the scenery after sunset. To enjoy the most expansive views, aim for a clear, sunny day when the visibility is high enough to see distant islands and the coast of Shikoku. The park is a beautiful destination year-round for those wishing to enjoy the tranquil scenery of the Seto Inland Sea.

Visitors can enjoy a relaxing picnic or a family outing using the many benches and open spaces provided. The playground area is a popular spot for children to play. During the peak cherry blossom season, you may also encounter local food trucks or small vendors selling light snacks and drinks, providing a wonderful opportunity to experience the local flavors of the region in a natural setting.
The nearby Shofukuji Temple is located close to the park. The park is easily accessible via a roughly 15-minute walk from JR Akiitsu Station, making it a convenient starting point for travelers using public transportation. The entire area is surrounded by the rich, natural beauty of the Seto Inland Sea.
As the park is located on a hill, it is recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes suitable for mountain paths and uneven terrain. Please dress according to the weather, as temperatures can change. If you are driving, please note that parking fees may apply on weekends during the peak cherry blossom season. Please remember to take all your trash home with you to preserve the natural environment.
