Even today, about 180 cattle graze peacefully across the pastures. Please note that the observatory itself is typically closed from late October to April, and the access road (Shirotaike Skyline) is closed from mid-November to late April. Because the observatory is at an elevation of 550m, temperatures tend to be lower than in the lowlands. Please bring appropriate clothing for the altitude. The Shirotaike Skyline is a mountain road with several steep gradients; please drive with caution.
