Shirakaba-ko Royal Hill Ski Resort is a nature-rich winter destination located on the south side of Lake Shirakaba in Chino City, Nagano Prefecture. Situated at the northern foot of Mt. Yatsugatake, the resort boasts a high rate of sunny days, allowing visitors to enjoy skiing while gazing at the breathtaking views of Lake Shirakaba. The resort opened in December 1961 and has long been a beloved local winter destination. In 2007, the management was transferred to Suzuki Shokai from the Alpico Group. Over the decades, the resort has nurtured a culture of enjoying the mountains across generations within the beautiful natural setting of Lake Shirakaba. Today, it serves not just as a ski-focused facility, but as a comprehensive leisure destination for the whole family.
The standout feature of Shirakaba-ko Royal Hill Ski Resort is its exceptional facilities and convenience. Most notably, it features a rare 'Snow Escalator,' which significantly reduces the physical burden of moving across the snow. Because the accommodation is located right next to the slopes, you can dive into the snowy world immediately upon arrival. The resort offers multiple courses to suit all skill levels, ranging from gentle slopes for families and beginners to more technical runs for intermediate and advanced skiers.
The best season to visit is from December to March. January and February are particularly popular as the snow quality is stable, providing the quintessential winter experience. The resort also offers night skiing, allowing you to experience the magical atmosphere of the mountains under the night sky. Whether you are skiing or snowboarding, you can enjoy the mountain even if you travel light. The resort provides high-quality rental sets, including full gear such as outerwear, helmets, and boots, making it perfect for beginners. There are also snow drive items (sled-like equipment) available for rental for a new way to play in the snow. For families, the hotel is equipped with kid-friendly amenities like a kids' room and a free lounge to ensure a comfortable stay.
After a day on the slopes, relax at a nearby cafe or restaurant while enjoying the view of Lake Shirakaba. Within the resort, you can enjoy lunch or a break at 'Restaurant Shirakaba' or 'Cafe Royalhill.' Additionally, the hotel's first floor provides changing rooms and lockers, offering high convenience even for those not staying overnight.
Please dress warmly with plenty of layers for protection against the cold. While the extensive rental service means you don't need to bring your own gear, we recommend bringing your own gloves and goggles for maximum comfort. Payments can be made via credit card in addition to cash. When using the snow escalator, children (specifically those in elementary school or younger) must be accompanied by an adult.
